Argus Lodge 545 F.& A.M. in Canfield honored Robert Allen Metzger, a longtime member, with the Mason of the Year award.

The award was established to honor a member who has diligently served Argus Lodge and is viewed by its master and officers as a Mason who has singled himself out through his actions in the past year.

Metzger has been an active member of the lodge for many years and is now park manager. He resides in Lake Milton with his wife, June.

He is a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1962 to 1966 and trained as an M.P. When he returned home he went to work at Youngstown Welding until 1973.

Metzger was a Mill Creek Park policeman until 1980, when he left to take the position of North Jackson police chief. He retired in 1989.

He is a member of the Argus Golf League.
