Western Reserve girls beat S. Range in opener

Colleen Kennehan scored 12 of her 17 points in the first half as Western Reserve defeated South Range 53-38 in the season opener for both girls basketball teams on Friday night.
The Blue Devils seized a 28-15 lead at the break.
Hannah Mowery tacked on nine points for Western Reserve which led 41-22 entering the final frame.
Kelsey Maynard and Kristin Robinson each scored eight points for the Raiders.
Lordstown 59, Columbiana 42
COLUMBIANA
Sarah Cash led Lordstown with 17 points in its season opener. Kaitlyn Cassidy added 12 points and Allyson Hajnosz finished with 10 for the Red Devils (1-0), who led 24-17 at halftime.
Dakota DeAmicis scored 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, for Columbiana (0-1).
AKRON FIRESTONE 81, EAST 37

Shaia Horton scored 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Firestone over East.
Taylor McCallister added 24 points for the Falcons, who led 31-16 at halftime but outscored the Panthers 23-8 in the third period.
Mishea Roper finished with nine points for Firestone.
East was led by Chimicka Kennedy, who scored 10 points. Maujanette Feagins finished with two points and a team-best 14 rebounds, while Mylesia Cotton contributed six points and five assists.
East Liverpool 47, Lisbon 42
LISBON
Whittni Davidson and Mallory Waggle scored 19 and 11 points respectively for East Liverpool (1-0).
Pam Pierce poured in 20 points for the Blue Devils (0-1).
East Liverpool took a 28-22 lead at the break and the teams played on even terms in the second half.
Warren JFK 47, Grand Valley 40
WARREN
Calli Kowach finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds to lead Warren JFK in its season opener.
Laure Lee added 10 points for the Eagles, who led 26-17 at halftime, but were outscored 18-6 in the third quarter to trail 35-32 entering the final period.
Chanel Thornton finished with five points and five assists for JFK, while Natalie Ambrosy had nine points.
Jessica Wormeiker led Grandy Valley with 17 points.

Canfield opened the season with losses to Avon (3-0) and Mentor (4-2) at the Ice Zone.
Goaltender Roger Geiser stopped 39 shots against Avon. In the second game, Geiser stopped 34 shots in the contest, while Ryan Ohara and Braden Falkingham had Canfield’s goals. Nick Crescimanno added an assist.
