Youngstown’s windows on the holidays

YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown State University Art Association students have put their talents on display by decorating the front windows of 10 downtown businesses for the holidays.
However, their artwork is more than a display; it’s competitive.
The students are competing in the city’s First Annual Holiday Window Decorating Contest. Their work will be judged by a panel consisting of Cynthia Anderson, YSU president; Leslie Barrett, 21 WFMJ-TV anchor; and Councilwoman Annie Gillam, D-1st. The panel will view the entries Wednesday at 2 p.m. Winners will be announced at the 2011 Holiday Parade and Festival on Dec. 3 in Central Square downtown.
According to Lyndsey Hughes, Youngstown director of marketing and events, the students volunteered their time for the competition. They painted windows at the Huntington Bank, the Stambaugh and Rosetta Stone buildings, Youngstown Jewelry, Chase Bank and other businesses. Hughes said the students plan to make the competition a yearly project for the association.
