A summary of police activity in the city of Canfield and Austintown:
CANFIELD
Nov. 10
Barking dogs/Animal cruelty: Frank Kalan, 63, of 514 Hickory Hollow, was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals, barking or howling dogs and dogs running loose. Police obtained a search warrant for the residence, and the Humane Agency was called in. Officers also found two dead cats in the house, wrapped in garbage bags and stored in the refrigerator or freezer. The house was filled with numerous items, and police reported Kalan was showing signs of becoming a hoarder. He was unkempt, not showered, had no socks on and had dirt on his ankles. Because of the total situation, authorities seized the approximately five dogs chained in the backyard, and the suspect was deemed unable to care for himself and was committed for observation.

Drug paraphernalia: Two 17-year-old male juveniles were arrested at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, both on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Nov. 17
Credit-card fraud: A resident of the 20 block of Lake Wobegon reported he and his wife were on a cruise, and when they returned home discovered three charges on their debit/credit card totaling $682 were made to their account that they did not make.
Drug abuse: Roger Diegele, 41, of 2704 Burbank Ave., Youngstown, was arrested on a charge of drug abuse for alleged possession of three, 2 mg. Clonazepam pills for which he did not have a prescription.

Drug paraphernalia: Michael Kerezsi, 27, of 4784 Timberview Drive, Ravenna, was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, including a package of rolling papers and two suspected marijuana cigarette butts on Lisbon Street.
Nov. 20
Drug abuse/paraphernalia: Cameron Proverbs, 18, of 9798 New Road, North Jackson, was arrested on charges of drug abuse of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at E. Main Street and Fairview Avenue.
AUSTINTOWN
Nov. 14
Domestic violence: Frankie Lockett, 20, of 101 Compass West Drive, Apt. 9, was arrested on a bench warrant for failure to appear on a criminal trespassing charge and on charges of domestic violence and criminal trespassing.
Breaking and entering: Entry was gained through the west vent of Formetco Metals, 102 Maple Drive, and tools were taken.
Vandalism: Objects were thrown at a car, and the window was shattered on Idaho Road and Mahoning Avenue.
Burglary: At an apartment in the 1000 block of Fountain Square.
Theft: A laptop was sent out for repairs but was never returned at an apartment in the 800 block of Compass West.

Theft: A driver’s wallet was stolen from his truck at the TA Travel Center, 5400 Seventy-Six Drive.
Theft: Checks for a checking account were taken by a grandson at a home in the 70 block of Omaha Drive.
Criminal damaging: A window on a building was damaged at a home in the 4000 block of Kirk Road.
Theft: A Texaco gasoline pump globe was stolen from a home in the 2000 block of S. Canfield-Niles Road.
Criminal damaging: A mercury light was shot out at a home in the 200 block of N. Beverly Ave.
Nov. 16
Theft: Several items were taken from an auto at Carney McNicholas, 100 Victoria Road.
Criminal damaging: A window was damaged at Best Western, 870 N. Canfield-Niles Road.
Warrant: Carl Fisher, 31, of 656 Taft Circle, Louisville, was arrested on a warrant charging failure to appear on a probation violation, and other charges including falsification, drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia.
Theft: A vehicle window was smashed, and a GPS and other items were taken at Carney McNicholas.
Theft: A vehicle window was smashed, and a GPS was stolen at Second Nature, 80 Victoria Road.
Forgery: A check was forged and cashed at a home in the 1000 block of Idaho Road.
Theft: Money was paid for carpet which was never installed at a home in the 2000 block of Fox Chase.
Breaking and entering: Copper pipe was taken from a home in the 1000 block of Yolanda Place.
Theft: A Huntington Bank debit card was reported taken by a grandson at a home in the 4000 block of New Road.
Theft: Prescription medication was taken out of a car at Youngstown Pre-Press, 3691 LeHarps Road.
Theft: $57.02 in gasoline was stolen from Country Fair, 1143 N. Canfield-Niles Road.
Theft: A purse was stolen from an auto at Galilee Church, 4009 Elmwood Ave.
Theft: Medication was stolen from a home in the 200 block of Carnegie Avenue.
Burglary: A burglary was reported at a home in the 1000 block of Rosemont Avenue, but nothing was taken.
Aggravated menacing: A female caller made menacing calls to a home in the 1000 block of Wise Lane.
Burglary: A burglary was reported at a home in the 30 block of S. Main Street.
Disturbance: An altercation between neighbors was reported in the 500 block of S. Raccoon Road.
Nov. 17
Drug offense: Forged prescriptions stolen from Warren were reported at Walgreen’s, 5501 Mahoning Ave.
Theft: A stereo and XM receiver were stolen from an auto at a home in the 10 block of N. Four Mile Run Road.
Warrant: Marisa Galvin, 21, of 8957 Cain Drive, Warren, was arrested on an unspecified warrant out of Howland police.
Nov. 18
Theft: An $800 check was stolen at Koch Construction, 7058 Mahoning Ave.
Fraud: Unauthorized purchases were made on a debit card at a home in the 4000 block of Kirk Road.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle was spray-painted at a home in the 4000 block of Woodridge Drive.
Assault: There is a suspect in an assault at Comprehensive Logistics, 365 Victoria Road.
Theft: A company check was cashed by unknown persons at Koch Construction, 7058 Mahoning Ave.
Nov. 19
Theft: A wallet and debit card were stolen at an unknown location.
Burglary: An elderly female claimed her gun was stolen at a home in the 1000 block of Howard Avenue. She was being referred to Adult Protection Services.
Theft: A ring was reported stolen at Austinwoods, 4790 Kirk Road.
Recovered property: A bicycle was recovered on Silica Road.
Nov. 20
Warrant: Michael DeSantis, 21, of 6882 New Castle Road, Lowellville, was arrested on a warrant for assault at Mahoning Avenue and Belle Vista Avenue.
Assault: A male victim was assaulted at Privilege, 1743 S. Raccoon Road, and was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Disturbance: A family custody dispute created a disturbance at a home in the 4000 block of Washington Square.
Possible animal cruelty: A dead dog was reported at a home in the 6000 block of Fairview Road.
Theft: Robert Herbert Jr., 24, of 17403 Wick ave., Lake Milton, was issued a summons in the theft of a wood-handled folding knife at Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.
Theft: A Georgia license plate was stolen from an auto at the Comfort Inn, 5425 Clarkins Drive.
Warrant: Kevin Kridler, 35, of 616 N. Four Mile Run Road, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic charge in the 600 block of N. Four Mile Run Road.
