LSU-Alabama Round 2 is just a few victories away.

A weekend filled with upsets left the Southeastern Conference rivals in the top two spots in the BCS standings released Sunday.

And Arkansas is third, further increasing the possibility of an all-SEC BCS championship game Jan. 9 in New Orleans that would be a rematch of a regular-season game.

It’s the first time in the 14-year history of the BCS that the same conference had to top three teams in the standings.

FCS PLAYOFFS

Sam Houston State (11-0) is the No. 1 seed for the FCS playoffs, announced Sunday.

The Bearkats of the Southland Conference are making their fifth appearance and first since 2004.

Second-seeded North Dakota State (10-1) is making its second consecutive appearance. The Bison captured the Missouri Valley Football Conference automatic berth.

Also from the MVFC is Northern Iowa (9-2), the No. 5 seed. The Panthers are making their 16th overall appearance.

DIVISION III PLAYOFFS

Unbeaten Mount Union (11-0) will play host to Centre (Ky.) in a second-round game in the NCAA Division III football playoffs on Saturday.

Centre is 10-1. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon.

MIAMI (FLA.)

CORAL GABLES, Fla.

Miami is not going to a bowl this season, self-imposing a ban that school officials say was “necessary” in response to an ongoing NCAA investigation into the university’s compliance practices.

Players were informed Sunday that Friday’s game against Boston College will be the last this season.

Baylor 45, Oklahoma 38

WACO, Texas

Robert Griffin threw for 479 yards and four touchdowns, including a 34-yarder to Terrance Williams with eight seconds left and 25th-ranked Baylor beat the Sooners for the first time, on Saturday night.

The Sooners (8-2, 5-2 Big 12) had overcome a two-touchdown deficit to tie the game on Blake Bell’s fourth touchdown run, a 6-yarder with 51 seconds left.

Stanford 31, California 28

STANFORD, Calif.

Andrew Luck threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns, and No. 8 Stanford survived a shaky start to beat rival California on Saturday night in a rain-soaked Big Game.

Luck revived his Heisman Trophy campaign by tossing scores to Levine Toilolo and Ryan Hewitt.

USC 38, Oregon 35

EUGENE, Ore.

Matt Barkley threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns and the Trojans held off Oregon when Alejandro Maldonado missed a 37-yard field goal to tie the game with five seconds left.

Trailing 24-7 in the third quarter, Oregon mounted a furious comeback and narrowed it to 38-35 with 7:05 left in the fourth quarter. Barkley led his team to the Oregon 15, but Marc Tyler fumbled.
