Police-chase probe

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a South Side police chase that ended in an accident and with the recovery of suspected illegal drugs. Officers patrolling the South Side on Sunday afternoon noticed the driver of a grey 2011 Dodge Charger fail to stop at a stop sign on South Avenue near the I-680 overpass. Police pulled the car over on Mabel Street near Gibson Avenue, but as officers walked toward the car, the driver sped away. Reports say that officers found the car a short distance away on its roof after an obvious collision with a utility pole. The driver of the car was nowhere to be found. Police found suspected heroin, pills and a scale inside the car. A 28-year-old city woman called police later in the day to report the car stolen. She said it was taken when she left it running while picking up her kids on Hunter Avenue.
