Saturday’s Big East games

Rutgers 20, Cincinnati 3

PISCATAWAY, N.J.

Freshman Jawan Jamison rushed for a career-high 200 yards and two touchdowns and surprising Rutgers moved into a share of first place in the Big East Conference. Picked to finish last in the conference’s preseason poll, Rutgers (8-3, 4-2) limited Cincinnati to a season-low 225 total yards while holding sophomore Munchie Legaux to 158 yards passing in his first start for the injured Zach Collaros. Jamison carried 34 times and scored on runs of 12 and 1 yard as the Scarlet Knights handed the Bearcats (7-3, 3-2) their second straight loss and snapped a five-game losing streak against them.

Louisville 34, Connecticut 20

EAST HARTFORD, CONN.

Teddy Bridgewater threw for 174 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. Victor Anderson added 72 yards rushing for Louisville (6-5, 4-2), which kept its title hopes alive in a tightly packed conference. Bridgewater completed 14 of 22 passes with an interception. UConn (4-6, 2-3), which last year won its final five regular season games to win the league championship and earn a trip to the Fiesta Bowl, is now mathematically out of the race. Johnny McEntee was 18 of 43 passing for 253 yards for UConn. Kashif Moore caught six passes for 110 yards and a TD and also scored a rushing touchdown. Lyle McCombs rushed for 33 yards but did become the second UConn freshman to pass the 1,000-yard mark.

Miami 6, South Florida 3

TAMPA, FLA.

Jake Wieclaw’s second field goal of the game, a 36-yarder as time expired, making Miami bowl eligible. Wieclaw calmly sent the winning kick through the uprights after USF (5-5) used a pair of timeouts to try to rattle the nerves of the junior, who earlier had missed on a 41-yard attempt that was tipped by the Bulls’ Ryne Giddins.
