Richards, Simons win crowns in Warren Jr. Masters

Staff report

WARREN

John Richards Jr. and Marissa Simon earned the boys and girls titles, respectively, at the conclusion of the 25th Warren Jr. Masters held at McKinley Lanes.

Each champion will receive a $200 scholarship and a winner’s jacket.

Richards, however, needed a 298 in Game 4 to pull him within eight pins of Kyle Condrick, who was runner-up. Condrick led for the first five rounds, shooting a 775 for the first three games.

In Game 5, Richards rolled 226 and Condrick 221 to narrow Condrick’s advantage to three pins. Richards had 234 to Condrick’s 192 in Game 6, and, from there, Richards never looked back.

Richards won all eight games of match play to earn 240 bonus pins on his way to the championship.

Simon led all eight rounds of competition, but runner-up Tessia Givens was on Simon’s heels throughout.

After five games, Simon had a 22-pin lead over Givens, but opened it up to 115 pins after Game 6. Simon and Givens bowled head-to-head in Game 7, which Givens won, bringing her within 71 pins for the final match.

In a Game 8 head-to-head clincher, Simon earned the win and the championship.

The tournament paid out more than $900 in scholarships to various bowlers.
