Rewriting the record book: YSU sophomore quarterback Kurt Hess had one of the best games of his career Saturday, completing 21 of 31 passes for 298 yards and a school-record five touchdowns. Hess shared the previous record of four with several other QBs. Hess also set the single-season record for TD passes with 26 (Mark Brungard is second with 21 in 1994), extended his single-season record for 200-yard passing games to eight and tied Tom Zetts (2003-07) for career 200-yard passing games with 13. His 2,460 passing yards this year ranks second in YSU history, trailing Jeff Ryan’s 2,573 in 1999. Finally, Hess set the single-season record for completion percentage at 64.8, surpassing Brandon Summers (64.2 in 2009).

Other records: YSU’s offense set single-season records for yards per game at 458.6 (the previous mark was 412.0, set last year) and points per game with 36.2, besting the 33.5 scored in 2001.

Farewell seniors: Twelve seniors participated in their final game: QB Marc Kanetsky, WR Ely Ducatel, WR Pat White, WR Andre Barboza, TE David Rogers, DE Obinna Ekweremuba, DE Daniel Stewart, DT Andrew Johnson, CB Josh Lee, LB John Sasson, FS Scott Sentner and LS Nate Schkurko. Starting were Rogers, Stewart, Johnson, Ekweremuba and Sentner. All but Schkurko (injured) appeared in the game.

This and that: TE Will Shaw had career-highs in catches (three), yards (92) and TDs (two). ... RB Jamaine Cook (104 yards) had his eighth 100-yard rushing game of the season. ... WR Jelani Berassa had a season-high seven catches. ... LB Ali Cheaib made his first start of the season and recorded a team-best nine tackles, including one for loss. ... S Jeremey Edwards intercepted a pass and forced a fumble. ... MSU averaged 34.6 yards per kickoff return while YSU returned just one kick for 1 yard.
