Northern Iowa 23, Illinois State 20, 2 OT
NORMAL, Ill.
Tyler Sievertsen kicked a 40-yard field goal with 5 seconds left to tie the game, then won it in the second overtime with a 36-yarder. Both teams scored touchdowns in the first overtime. Tirrell Rennie, who finished with 100 yards rushing, ran 12 yards for a score for Northern Iowa (9-2, 7-1 Missouri Valley), but the Redbirds (7-4, 6-2) tied it when Matt Brown threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Marvon Sanders on fourth down. In the second overtime, Illinois State had the ball first, but Nick Aussieker’s 37-yard field goal missed wide left. Sievertsen made his third field goal of the game to win it.
Southern Illinois 35, Indiana State 28
TERRE HAUTE, IND.
Jewel Hampton scored his second touchdown with 6:13 left, lifting Southern Illinois. Hampton rushed 35 times for a career-high 178 yards for the Salukis (4-7, 2-6 Missouri Valley). Kory Faulkner also ran for two Southern Illinois scores. Donald Spencer caught two touchdown passes from Ronnie Fouch for the Sycamores (6-5, 4-4), who trailed 21-0 at halftime but tied the game in the third quarter.
North Dakota State 37, Western Illinois 21
MACOMB, ILL.
Sam Ojuri rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns, Marcus Williams returned one of his two interceptions 56 yards for a score, and North Dakota State clinched a share of the MVFC regular-season title with UNI. Brock Jensen added a rushing score to go with 196 yards passing for the Bison (10-1, 7-1), who shook off losing their first game last week.
