YOUNGSTOWN

With the announced end of the Iraq war and President Barack Obama’s pledge to have troops home for the holidays, The Vindicator is seeking area Iraq veterans who recently have come home or are coming home before the upcoming Christmas/Hanukkah season and their families for a story about how they plan to mark this extra-special homecoming.

DEPLOYED

Home from Afghanistan

Army Capt. Brian W. Hewko and his wife, 1st Lt. Christina M. Hewko, have returned from a year’s deployment to Afghanistan with the Army’s 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Both helicopter pilots, they flew missions out of Jalalabad Air Base in eastern Afghanistan. Also, both are 2008 graduates of the Military Academy at West Point.

Capt. Hewko is a 2004 graduate of Canfield High School and the son of Kathryn Hewko of Canfield and the late Basil J. Hewko. Lt. Hewko is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sean Davis of Baltimore, Md., and Joseph Monmonier of Palm Beach, Fla.

BASIC-TRAINING GRADS

Air Force: Airman 1st Class Marshall P. Tannehill (Poland Seminary High School, ’04), son of Kathy Morrow of Youngstown; Airman Alexander W. Valentin (Lowellville High School, ’07), son of Wilson and Marybell Valentin of Youngstown.

Army: National Guard Pvt. Zachary T. Lowe (Liberty High School, ’10), son of Angie Barrett of Warren and Scott Lowe of Youngstown; National Guard Pvt. Keri A. May (Western Reserve High School, Berlin Center, ’10), daughter of Earl and Connie May of Canfield.

Coast Guard: Seaman Kurt J. Conricote (Canfield High School, ’10), son of Gail D. Conricote of Canfield and James M. Conricote of Youngstown.

Marine Corps: Pvt. Richard J. Hart, son of Amy R. Hart and Herbert J. Hart Sr., both of Warren.
