New-car sales in the Mahoning Valley jumped 8 percent in October, and leading the pack once again was a trio of Chevrolet models, according to statistics released Friday by the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.

Sales of new cars rose from 1,674 last September to 1,815 and are up nearly 5,000 units through the first 10 months of the year, a 29 percent increase.

The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze regained its spot atop the leader board. Dealers sold 144 Cruzes, 92 Chevrolet Silverados and 73 Chevrolet Equinoxes.

The Chevrolet Malibu, last September’s best-seller, fell to fifth place, registering 66 sales.

The Cruze now leads the Malibu in year-to-date sales, 1,782 to 1,763.

Sweeney Chevrolet, 8010 Market St., Boardman, led new-car sales with 114.

Bob and Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, 4850 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, finished second, selling 108.

Used-car sales are on pace with last year’s figures.

Donnell Ford, 955 Market St., Boardman, sold 95 used cars in October, the most of any dealer in the Mahoning Valley.
