All work and no play was not the intention of these Hilltop Elementary School students who had a blast playing in the leaves after they and their parents raked them in an effort to give back to the school.

It was BYOT (Bring Your Own Tools) day, the morning of Nov. 12 at Hilltop Elementary School.

On the crisp, cool, breezy morning, several students and their parents volunteered to give back to the school by raking leaves.

“We wanted to help the school custodians by doing some work outside the school. They are so busy inside the school during the day, that they don’t have much time to get outside,” said Beth Scheetz, a parent volunteer.

Joining Scheetz were her husband Kevin, Angela Hull, Micky and Chad Rosko, Staci Wills and Hilltop Elementary School principal Cathy Mowry, each armed with a rake or a leaf blower.

But the biggest help of the day came from all their children, who also incorporated a little bit of fun into the work day by playing and jumping in the leaf piles.

“We wanted to build some community and school spirit,” said Micky Rosko.
