Kathy Kloos has been named this year’s Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women’s “Outstanding Elected Democratic Woman” from Region 15, one of 18 in the state.

Region 15 comprises Mercer, Crawford, Erie, Venango and Warren counties.

The Democrat Women of Mercer County chose Kloos for the honor. She is a founding member of the DWMC and served as its first secretary.

She serves Mercer County in three elected Row Office positions simultaneously: clerk of courts, register of wills and clerk of the orphans’ court. In this election year, Kloos is running with no opposition for her fifth four-year position.

Since 1995 she has supervised 12 full-time and two part-time employees and administered a large budget. She credits her staff and sends the praise back to them.

She credits her extensive legal training to her mentors during progressively more responsible positions in the law office of Cusick, Maden, Joyce and McKay from 1974-1982, as administrative assistant to Judge Frances Fornelli and McKay from 1974-1989 and as legal assistant to Atty. William Madden from 1989 to 1995 before her election to public service.

As a hands-on administrator, her newest improvement is the preservation of state records from the early 1800s on microfilm. Also within her tenure, Kloos has instituted a new effective cost collection system for the courts that has increased the annual collection from $500,000 to more than $1 million for the past three years.
