It recognizes O’Brien for his effective and compassionate leadership in keeping city parks open for inner-city youth; building a public amphitheater in the city that houses a summer music program for the community; and for his insistence that the poorer districts have an equal opportunity to receive city services such as snowplowing, street resurfacing and garbage pickup, according to a press release from the organization.

“Mayor O’Brien has been a strong advocate for social services in his community,” said Danielle Smith, executive director of the Ohio Chapter. “Despite continued decreases in city funding, Mayor O’Brien continues to work toward creative solutions to keep needed community services.”
