Boardman Civic Association sets meeting

The Boardman Civic Association will host their final dinner meeting of the year on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center in Boardman Park. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting agenda includes the annual “State of Boardman” presentation. Representatives from the Boardman Community and Schools Foundations and Boardman Civics, Kiwanis, Lions, Optimist and Rotary will make presentations offering a brief overview to include their accomplishments of the year. In addition, the BCA will also discuss our need to fill a vacant seat on our board of directors.

Dinner is included in BCA dues, however dinner for guests will be $15 payable at the door. Dinner will be catered by A La Carte Catering.

Boardman Park hosts Senior Fun Day

Seniors are invited to come to Boardman Park on Dec. 15 and Dec. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Senior Fun Day will include activities such as exercising, crafts, Bingo, lunch and blood pressure screening.

The event will take place in the Lariccia Family Community Center. Cost is $1.

Santa’s calling your house

Boardman Park will be assisting Santa with a direct line from the North Pole to the community. Parents who would like their children, ages 3 to 8, to receive a phone call from Santa can pick up a form at the Boardman Park office or download it from www.boardmanpark.com.

Completed forms should be returned to the park office, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, or faxed to 330-726-4562. The deadline for forms is Dec. 13.

Santa will only have time for one call per family so it is important to be home during your scheduled time. There is no fee for the call.

Youngstown Torch Club sets meeting

The Youngstown Torch Club will meet on Monday at 6 p.m. for its dinner meeting in Besnahan Suites I and II in Kilcawley Center, located on Youngstown State University’s campus.

The speaker will be Charles Darling, Professor Emeritus of American History from Youngstown State University and host of Folk Festival, heard on WYSU-FM Sundays at 8 p.m.

His presentation is titled: Red Triangle in the Queen City, and will examine the conflict between Americans and immigrants from Ireland and Germany in the pre-Civil War era.

Supper with Santa at Boardman Park

Boardman Park is hosting Supper with Santa on Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The fee is $6 per Boardman resident and $8 for nonresidents and includes, dinner, crafts and music with Santa. The fee also includes a professional picture with Santa. Children under 2 are admitted free. To purchase tickets, visit the park office. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Community Christmas and tree dedication

Boardman Park will host a community Christmas and tree dedication on Dec. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will include decorating the park’s evergreen trees using natural decorations for the wildlife to enjoy. Also, the event will include an appearance by Santa, music and caroling led by Tom Rugerri and Linda Smrek and the Boardman High School Band and free wagon rides.

Local business hosts food drive

Carlozzi Financial Services is again helping fill the shelves of the Second Harvest Food Bank. Last year, Carlozzi Financial Services collected more than 287 pounds of food. This year, they invite the public to help feed hungry families this holiday season.

Donations of canned or nonperishable food items can be dropped off at Carlozzi Financial Services, located in the Southwest Business Complex off South Avenue.

Horticulture students open floral shop

The Horticulture students at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center have opened their floral shop to the community. The shop is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday through May.

The Floral Shop currently offers a selection of fall floral arrangements for the home, office or as gift. The students can also create custom fresh floral arrangements for their customers.

Enjoy Olde Fashioned Christmas

Lanterman’s Mill will be decked out in holiday finery Nov. 26-27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Olde Fashioned Christmas at the Mill.

The program will include Santa, artisans demonstrating crafts, a juggler, a balloon artist and musicians.

Bring a hat, scarf or pair of mittens to decorate a “Giving Tree.” Donated items will warm-up children in need from Mahoning County this winter.

Library invites children to show thanks

The Boardman library invites children of all ages to show thanks through Nov. 26 during library hours. By drawing a picture or writing a sentence or two, children can show and tell what they are thankful for.

All entries will be displayed in the library. All participants will receive a bookmark and stickers.

Library hosts Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk

The Boardman library is hosting Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s on Nov. 23 and 30 at 10 a.m. for children ages 2-3. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finer plays and other activities that will help children become a successful reader.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Boardman library will host Fun Times for 4s and 5s on Nov. 22 and 29 at 10 a.m. for children ages 4-5. The program includes developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities to help children come successful readers.

Design fresh flower centerpieces

Design a fresh flower centerpiece at Fellows Riverside Garden on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Lemon leaves, eucalyptus berries and hypericum share the limelight with autumn-hued roses in this Thanksgiving centerpiece. Dolly Vivalo will instruct you step by step in the design of this stunning fresh flower arrangement placed in a unique leaf vase.

The cost is $28 for Mahoning County residents and $35 for non-residents.

Wollet achieves membership

Harry J. Wollet, Financial Advisor, located at 755 Boardman Canfield Rd., was recently named a member of the 2012 Executive Council.
