POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty and Girard.

LIBERTY

Nov. 9

Arrest: While investigating a disturbance on Belmont Avenue, officers took 34-year-old Matthew J. Smith, 4006 Monticello Blvd., Liberty, into custody on a warrant accusing him of failure to appear in court on drug charges.

Theft: A worker for a Belmont Avenue business reported her wallet stolen from an office.

Theft: A woman returned to a Goldie Road store to retrieve her purse from a shopping cart and saw that the purse had been taken.

Theft: A Savanna, Ill., man accused three employees of a Belmont Avenue motel of stealing his wallet as he slept.

Theft: A woman discovered her wallet missing while at a Belmont Avenue grocery store.

Nov. 10

Arrest: Police conducting a vehicle registration check on state Route 193 took 43-year-old Brian L. Moore, 17 Holly Drive, Girard, into custody. He was accused of failing to appear in court on a drug-abuse charge.

Theft: A charge was pending against a 48-year-old Canfield woman after an employee with Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, reported the theft of prescriptions.

Arrest: Police picked up 48-year-old Henry A. Garner at the Mahoning County jail. Garner, of 3531 Hillman St., Youngstown, was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court.

Drugs: After police on Belmont Avenue stopped 28-year-old Gina M. Tibbs, 847 South St., Niles, they charged her with a felony count of possession of drugs after saying they found in her purse part of a pill for which she admitted having no prescription.

Arrest: While conducting a welfare check on Marla Lane, officers took into custody 27-year-old Megan R. Porter, 4 Marla, upon learning she was wanted on a felony warrant.

Breaking and entering: A Realtor discovered a break-in at a residence in the 2500 block of Homestead Road after someone had apparently pried open a rear door. Roughly 100 feet of copper piping was removed from the basement.

Nov. 11

Arrest: Officers took custody of 21-year-old Kerisha A. Wallace, 142 Silliman St., Youngstown, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant about a probation hearing.

Drugs: A vehicle check near Church Hill Road led to 24-year-old Amanda R. Taylor’s being charged with drug abuse. Taylor, of 2281 Lake Drive, Hubbard, had a bag of suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana cigar, police said.

Drugs: A suspicious vehicle in Church Hill Park off Church Hill Road caught the attention of police, who filed charges of possession of marijuana against Joseph T. Maldonado, 845 Taylor Ave., Girard, and Connor Mason, 4742 Michigan Blvd., Liberty, both 18. Found were a prescription bottle with a small quantity of suspected marijuana and a bag of suspected marijuana that Mason admitted was his, a report said.

Nov. 12

Arrest: Girard police handed 20-year-old Abdullah L. Holley, 3007 Green Acres Drive, Liberty, to township authorities. Holley was wanted on a warrant.

Drugs: Dennis D. Hubbert, 29, of 773 Delaware Ave., Youngstown, was pulled over near Logan Way and charged with drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and having no operator’s license. Suspected marijuana and a digital scale were found, a report showed.

Nov. 13

Domestic violence: Tadeus J. Papiernik, 53, and Gina M. Gasior, 45, both of 2044 Crestwood Blvd., Liberty, were charged with the crime after a situation between them in which police said they found Papiernik bleeding and with scratches to his face. Gasior alleged Papiernik had thrown her to the ground and choked her.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Oaktree Drive resulted in 29-year-old Ronald D. Jenkins’ arrest. Jenkins, of 563 Dewey Ave., Youngstown, was accused of failing to appear in court to face a traffic charge.

Criminal damaging: Someone threw pumpkins and struck two cars in the 500 block of Aurora Drive.

Burglary: To a room at a Motor Inn Drive motel, from which a $900 laptop computer was missing.

GIRARD

Nov. 8

Theft/damage: An East Howard Street man reported someone had broken into his work van and took his wallet, which was recovered.

Criminal mischief: An egg was thrown at a car in the 100 block of East Liberty Street.

Menacing: An East Prospect Street woman told police a relative’s boyfriend threatened to kill her.

Nov. 9

Drugs: Police on a traffic stop near West Howard Street detained a man wanted on a warrant, then said they found a water bottle used for drug paraphernalia. They also seized seven grams of suspected heroin, a report showed.

Nov. 10

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed pumpkins through a window in the 300 block of East Prospect Street.

Burglary: Occurred in the 10 block of Olive Avenue. Stolen were three cellphones, an MP3 player, a digital camera and a Nintendo system, for an estimated $750 loss.

Nov. 11

Arrests: Police issued summonses to Gilbert McKinstry, 22, and Ashley Flesher, 20, both of Girard, charging them with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, providing alcohol to an underage person and underage consumption of alcohol.

Menacing: A Steel Street woman told police her boyfriend has been driving past her residence and continually calling as part of a pattern of harassment.

Breaking and entering: A laptop computer as well as 12- and 20-gauge shotguns were removed from a home in the 300 block of Iowa Avenue someone had entered.
