Pittsburgh councilman denies 'grades-for-sex' fliers

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh city councilman who teaches community college classes says fliers claiming he gave a student an “A” in exchange for sex are “maliciously false.”

Police spokeswoman Diane Richard says city and county police are investigating the fliers that were distributed to some area media outlets targeting Councilman Ricky Burgess, a Democrat and Baptist minister who has taught communications for 21 years at the Community College of Allegheny County.

Burgess issued a statement criticizing the fliers and denying their content today and says he’s asked school officials to investigate where they originated, too. A school spokesman confirmed that investigation.

Burgess was re-elected to council Nov. 8, four days after the fliers surfaced on a campus bulletin board.
