Authorities say gas line explodes in southern Ohio

GLOUSTER, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a gas line has exploded in a rural area of southern Ohio but there were immediate reports of injuries.

A Morgan County sheriff’s dispatcher and a spokesman for Athens County say the explosion happened this morning near Glouster, close to the line that divides the two counties.

Crews from both counties were responding to the explosion.

WBNS-TV reports that witnesses said flames shot hundreds of feet into the air.

A Tennessee Gas pipeline runs through the area. Tennessee Gas Pipeline spokesman Richard Wheatley said the company was sending people to the site but had not determined if its pipeline was involved in the explosion.

Officials say no further information is available.
