Storm downs power lines, trees in Valley

YOUNGSTOWN

Downed power lines and fallen trees were littered across the Mahoning Valley after severe winds and heavy rains rolled through Monday night.

Emergency crews in Youngstown said that residents from all parts of the city reported wires down.

The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office said the hardest-hit areas appeared to be Newton and Hubbard townships. An instance of road flooding also was reported in Howland, a dispatcher said. Power also was out in Niles, police said.

Ohio Edison spokesman Mark Durbin said about 900 people in Youngstown lost power and that other reports were widely scattered.
