On Friday, Regis Philbin says goodbye to “Live! With Regis & Kelly.” Reege has made it clear that he isn’t retiring and that we’ll soon learn about his next endeavor. In the meantime, here are five things you may not have known about TV’s coolest 80-year-old.

v Early days: Around the time Philbin entered Notre Dame, his parents moved from the Bronx (where he was raised) to a house on 12th Avenue in Mineola, N.Y. After graduation, Philbin lived there for several years, commuting to Manhattan for his first job, an NBC page.

v Remember this?: His most famous game-show gig was “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” But who remembers that he also hosted “Neighbors” (1975-76), on which five neighbors swapped gossip about one another hoping to win big prizes?

v Sidekick: Philbin gained national exposure as Joey Bishop’s sidekick on the comedian’s late-night talk show (1967-69), ABC’s failed attempt to dethrone Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show.” In July 1968, Philbin walked off the show, saying ABC was “out to get him.” When he returned a few days later, that night’s episode attracted more viewers than did its NBC rival.

v Going live: Live!” began as “The Morning Show,” which was broadcast only in the New York area. It premiered April 4, 1983; the original hosts were Philbin and Cyndy Garvey.

v Record setter: Philbin is in the “Guinness Book of World Records” as having more on-air, on-camera time than any other TV personality.

“raising hope” (9:31 p.m., Fox): On “Raising Hope,” Burt’s wealthy parents (Shirley Jones and Lee Majors) announce that they’re dropping by for Thanksgiving. So the Chances do what any normal family would do when they’re trying to impress someone: “Borrow” a nice house and pretend it’s theirs.

Miranda Lambert concert is sold out

YOUNGSTOWN

The Feb. 18 concert by country star Miranda Lambert at Covelli Centre is sold out, arena officials said Monday, although they pointed out that a limited number of single-seat tickets remain available. Tickets went on sale Friday. Lambert will appear with Chris Young and Jerrod Niemann.

Raising money to renovate theater

EAST PALESTINE

To raise money for the East Palestine Community Theater project, the city’s chamber of commerce will have the fourth annual Turkey Trot, a 5-kilometer run and walk, Nov. 24. The race begins and ends in East Palestine Park.

Volunteers are in the process of renovating an old movie house in the downtown into a community theater. Thousands of dollars are needed for the heating and air conditioning systems.

To enter, send a non-refundable $20 entry fee to East Palestine Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 329, East Palestine, OH 44413. Entries also will be accepted the day of the race.
