Ohio man to die for killing 3 sons

COLUMBUS (AP) — A prisons spokesman says an Ohio man has arrived at the prison in southern Ohio where he’s scheduled to be executed for fatally shooting his three sons while they slept in 1982, shortly after his wife filed for divorce.

If 66-year-old Reginald Brooks of East Cleveland is executed Tuesday, he’d be the first person put to death in Ohio since May.

His attorneys argue he’s mentally ill and incompetent for execution. They also say information that could have favorably affected his trial was withheld.

Prosecutors acknowledge Brooks is mentally ill but dispute that he’s incompetent and that information was hidden. They say Brooks planned to kill the boys and took revenge on his wife.

Gov. John Kasich refused to grant clemency. Brooks has appeals pending in several courts.
