a statement from ANTHONY STANKO

Howland senior lineman Anthony Stanko responded to a request from The Vindicator if he would honor his verbal commitment for a football scholarship to Penn State. Here is Stanko’s statement:

“First, I would like to say that I am saddened for the victims and their families. It has been devastating for them as well as the fans of Penn State. I encourage everyone to let the story unfold.

“I stand behind my commitment to Penn State. I look forward to the top level of education I will receive at Penn State and am proud of the history and traditions they hold.

“I have been in contact with the Penn State Interim Athletic Director, Mark Sherburne, and Interim Head Coach, Tom Bradley. They have assured all commits that our scholarships continue to be honored by Penn State University regardless of coaching changes.

“The commits of 2012 are staying in touch and forming a strong bond in the hopes of restoring the pride to all the fans and alumni of Penn State.

“I have one last thing to say … WE ARE.”
