Indiana State 28, Missouri State 20
SPRINGFIELD, MO.
Shakir Bell ran for 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead Indiana State. Both of Bell’s scores came in the first half, giving the Sycamores (6-4, 4-3 Missouri Valley) an early 14-0 lead. The Bears (1-9, 1-6) got on the board late in the half with a pair of field goals by Austin Witmer. Then after the break, they came within 14-13 when Trevor Wooden threw to Chris Douglas for a touchdown. That was as close as the Bears could get. The Sycamores pulled ahead 28-13 on a touchdown pass from Ronnie Fouch to Donald Spencer, followed by a short scoring run by Ben Obaseki. Wooden’s touchdown pass to Jermaine Saffold with 1:39 left became the final score. Wooden led the game in passing, completing 10 of 22 tries for 136 yards. Fouch threw 8 for 18 for 90 yards.
Northern Iowa 34, Southern Utah 21
CEDAR FALLS, IOWA
Carlos Anderson ran for 115 yards and quarterback Tirrell Rennie finished with 86 yards and two rushing touchdowns to lead Northern Iowa. The Panthers (8-2) trailed 21-7 after Brad Sorensen’s touchdown for the Thunderbirds (5-5) early in the second quarter. But the Panthers got within 21-17 at the half and Rennie’s 16-yard run early in the third quarter put Northern Iowa ahead to stay, 24-21.
South Dakota State 27, Western Illinois 7
MACOMB, ILL.
Austin Sumner threw for 208 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score to lead South Dakota State. Winston Wright ran 68 yards with a recovered fumble for the Coyotes (5-6, 4-4 Missouri Valley), who finished their season with three consecutive wins. Sumner’s touchdown pass went 7 yards to Zach Zenner.
Southern Illinois 45, Eastern Illinois 28
CARBONDALE, ILL.
Jewel Hampton and Kory Faulkner rushed for two touchdowns apiece, and Southern Illinois spoiled the final game of Eastern Illinois coach Bob Spoo’s career. Hampton rushed for 110 yards. Faulkner added 234 yards passing and a touchdown to MyCole Pruitt for the Salukis (3-7), who snapped a six-game losing streak. Shariff Harris also scored on the ground, and Jackson MacLachlan kicked a 40-yard field goal. Eastern Illinois (2-9) got three second-quarter rushing touchdowns from Jake Walker but couldn’t pull out a win for Spoo.
