WASHINGTON, D.C.

David M. Toepfer, the Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney, will receive the director’s award for excellence in litigation from the Executive Office for United States Attorneys.

Toepfer will receive the award Dec. 9 in Washington for his prosecution of gun-carrying felons in the VGRIP (Violence and Gun Reduction Interdiction Program) in the Mahoning Valley. The V-GRIP program has been credited with making a dent in violent crime in Youngstown and other Valley communities this summer.

Having previously been an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor for nine years, Toepfer joined the U. S. Attorney’s office in 2008.
