Man dies in fire
YOUNGSTOWN
A man died Saturday night after a fire consumed a home on the city’s South Side.
Youngstown Fire Chief John J. O’Neill Jr. said the man, whose identity was not immediately known, was found on the first floor. He said the fire appeared to have started near the kitchen.
Firefighters responded to a call shortly after 10 p.m. at 29 Williamson Ave., just a block east of Market Street.
Santa Paws benefit
Operation Santa Paws is collecting items for the dogs, cats and other animals cared for by Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary in Salem, Animal Charity of Youngstown and The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.
From Monday through Dec. 19, donations will be accepted at all Shepherd of the Valley locations: 7148 West Blvd., Boardman; 4100 North River Road NE, Howland; 1500 McKinley Ave., Niles; 301 W. Western Reserve Road, Poland; Home Health & Corporate Offices, 5525 Silica Road, Austintown; plus Copper Zone Tanning at Southern Park Mall and Pet Lodge USA, 8063 Market St., both in Boardman.

The Bistro opening
CANFIELD
The Bistro at MCCTC, a restaurant operated by students in the culinary- arts program, will open to the public Tuesday at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. The Bistro is open from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for dine-in or carryout. Freshly prepared soups, salads, sandwiches, entr es and desserts are available.
