YOUNGSTOWN
A tree-planting commemorating Youngstown’s Tree City USA designation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Avenue and Superior Street in the city’s Brier Hill neighborhood.
Trees are being planted as part of ongoing enhancement efforts in the Brier Hill Neighborhood-U.S. Route 422 Corridor. The project is funded by V&M Star and coordinated by Lien Forward Ohio and Treez Please with assistance from neighborhood churches, businesses, neighbors and civic organizations.
Drug lab found
WARREN
Agents with the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force found a drug-manufacturing lab in a garage at a house on Braceville Robinson Road in Braceville Township on Wednesday night. They also found evidence of methamphetamine production in the upstairs of the residence, the task force said.
Carlos G. Cowger Jr., 36, of the Braceville Robinson address is charged with felony aggravated drug trafficking and possession of chemicals used to make drugs in connection with the investigation. Cowger pleaded innocent Thursday in Warren Municipal Court and was placed in Trumbull County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
Agents arrested Cowger at a store on Ridge Road on Wednesday. They found suspected methamphetamine on him. Niles police assisted with the investigation.
Runaway child
WARREN
A woman whose 17-year-old daughter was found dead in Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 15 after having run away from home months earlier has reported her 13-year-old son as a runaway.
Vontisue T. Patterson, 35, of Blair Avenue Northwest, reported Avery L. Patterson as a runaway at 1:25 a.m. Thursday.
She said the boy, who is 5 feet 9 inches, 200 pounds, left home about 2 p.m. Wednesday and did not return. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie and blue sneakers.
Avery’s sister, Aerial L. Patterson, was found dead in the yard of a vacant home Oct. 15. Police said they believe the girl was killed Oct. 14. Eddie Doh, 23, of Charlotte later was charged with killing the girl. A family member said Aerial had a habit of running away from home and traveling to places to meet people she had met on the Internet.
Special meeting
Liberty
The Liberty Township trustees will have a special meeting at 11:30 a.m. today to discuss personnel matters at the township administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.
Music festival set
WARREN
Trumbull 100 is presenting Foodstock 2011, a music festival featuring nine local acts, on Saturday at W.D. Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW. Admission is $10 or 10 nonperishable food items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.
Tickets are available at Mickey’s Army Navy Store in Warren, Second Harvest Food Bank in Youngstown, and at the door. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the concert is from 2 to 10 p.m.
All bands are donating their time and talent.
