The Bistro at career center opens

Students in the Culinary Arts program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will open their student-run restaurant to the public for 2011-2012 academic year, beginning Tuesday.

The Bistro at MCCTC is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for dine-in or carryout through the spring.

The Bistro is a student-operated restaurant located within the career center that gives Culinary Arts students the chance to gain experience in a working restaurant.

Whether running the kitchen staff as the sous chef or waiting on customers in the dining room, students are able to experience all levels of restaurant operation while still in high school.

Freshly-prepared soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts are all available, and everything is made by students under the supervision of Culinary Arts Instructor Chef Matt Putzier. Entrees start at $6 with sandwiches starting at $5.

The Bistro can also accommodate large groups. To make a group reservation, call The Bistro at 330-729-4000, extension 1506. Fall and winter operating dates are:
