Police: Unarmed man shot inside own home
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The attorney for a Philadelphia man shot by police says an officer fired on his unarmed client without warning inside his own home.
Police say 37-year-old Stephen Moore was shot Wednesday by an officer responding to a report of a burglary or an intruder. Lt. Ray Evers says the officer shot Moore after a confrontation.
But attorney Craig Sokolow says his client heard a commotion downstairs and was shot without warning as he went to investigate.
Sokolow says Moore owns the West Philadelphia home. Police disputed that assertion but said that doesn’t mean Moore didn’t live there.
The district attorney’s office and police internal affairs are investigating. The officer involved has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigations.
Moore remains hospitalized.
