Pa. US senators won't support Paterno for bid for prestigious medal
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Along with his job as head football coach at Penn State, Joe Paterno may also lose a shot at the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom.
U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey and Bob Casey said today that they are rescinding their support for his nomination for the nation’s highest civilian honor, citing recent events at the school. U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson also nominated Paterno earlier this year, but his office didn’t respond to messages today.
The trio submitted his name in September, citing his contributions to athletics and higher education.
