Woman found incompetent to stand trial in Pa. stabbing deaths

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A woman has been found incompetent to stand trial in the stabbing deaths of her two children in a south Philadelphia row house in September.

Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore told The Philadelphia Inquirer today that 27-year-old Chanthy Mao will continue undergoing psychiatric treatment.

Mao, listed as Sotheary Mao in an arrest report, is charged in the Sept. 1 killings of her 12-year-old daughter, Savanna, and 8-year-old son, Savann.

Her status is to be reviewed at a Jan. 31 hearing to determine whether she can understand and cooperate with a defense attorney.
