Man dies after car falls on him

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Coroner’s office has identified a man killed when a car fell off jacks and onto him as Richard Johnstone, 34, of Southern Boulevard.

Johnstone had to be extricated by the fire department and was dead at the scene after the car he was working on fell about 4 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of East Boston Avenue on the city’s South Side, said Courtney Bouchie, coroner’s investigator.

Christmas parade

NEW MIDDLETOWN

The Springfield Community Chamber of Commerce will launch the Christmas season with a Christmas Parade bringing in Santa Claus beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday on Main Street.

The parade will be followed by a craft/artisan show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church on Main Street.

A Tour of Homes also is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will be available at St. Paul’s.

The day will conclude with a tree-lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Village Administration Building, also on Main Street.

Crafters and artisans can call 330-542-9940 to rent a table for $10 at the craft show.

The city council will meet at 7 tonight at the city building, 6 Elm St. A caucus meeting takes place at 6:15 p.m. in the caucus room at the building.

‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd talk

Canfield

The Canfield Historical Society concludes its Fall Lecture Series with a free lecture on “Pretty Boy” Floyd.

Atty. Timothy R. Brookes, a practicing attorney in East Liverpool, will give the lecture at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Canfield Historical Society’s Bond House, 44 W. Main St.

Charles Arthur “Pretty Boy” Floyd was an American bank robber whose exploits gained heavy press coverage across the nation, according to a historical- society news release.

He was shot and killed by law enforcement near East Liverpool in 1934.
