Ashes of veteran stolen from cemetery

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police are investigating the theft of a Korean War veteran’s ashes from a western Pennsylvania military cemetery.

WTAE-TV reports the ashes of Miles Young were taken from a vault at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies last week.

Family members say the cemetery reported the vault containing Young’s ashes was broken into Friday.

Nephew Chuck Arenth says Young’s family has no idea who would take the ashes or why.

Young was an Air Force staff sergeant who died earlier this year.

The WTAE report says more than 5,200 veterans are interred at the cemetery.
