Ungaro, Maszczak win

Voters in two townships ousted incumbents Tuesday.

In Poland, Eric Ungaro defeated Annette Jeswald-DiVito, who has been a township trustee since 1999, and fellow challenger Tony Sferra, an assistant chief with the Western Reserve Joint Fire District.

In Canfield, Stephen Maszczak was elected township trustee, defeating Martha Zarlenga, who was first elected in 2007, and challenger Joe Paloski.

Boardman Trustee Larry Moliterno held on to his office. He was challenged by Richard Scarsella, a member of boards for the county educational service center and county soil and water district.

Ungaro and Maszczak said they believe supporters chose them because they vowed to be accessible during their campaigns.

Moliterno said he took his re-election to signify that residents are comfortable with the direction the township is heading.
