2 taken to hospital because of gas leak

Two female teenagers were rushed to a hospital Sunday after the home they were staying in was discovered to have high levels of carbon monoxide.

Firefighters and gas workers arrived at 231 Kenmore St. and were able shut off gas to the house.

The fire department said the toxic gas came from the furnace.

There is no word on the condition of the females.

Meeting canceled

Hope Works of the Mahoning Valley canceled its final meeting scheduled for Wednesday, according to a press release.

The cancellation, the release said, is due to a scheduling conflict.

Poll workers sought

The board of elections still is looking for about a dozen Republican poll workers for Tuesday’s election, the Mahoning County Republican Party said in a press release.

The release said poll workers earn about $120 for the day, which starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m.

Both Independent and Republican voters can call the county’s Republican office, 330-629-7006.

Those working the poll sites are required to attend a mandatory training meeting at 2 p.m. today.

Veterans Day event at Horizon academy

The Horizon Science Academy will have its second annual Veterans Day Program on Wednesday.

The program, which begins at 2:45 p.m., will include a guest speaker from the Marine Corps Reserve and student performances.

The event also will showcase the students’ Veterans Day Wall of Honor — a wall of student art dedicated to veterans.
