‘Believe in Yourself’ to be theme for JCL’s Cinderella Ball

BOARDMAN

The Junior Civic League’s Annual Cinderella Ball will feature the theme “Believe in Yourself” this year, its 56th.

Fifteen debutantes will be introduced at the gala, which will take place Nov. 25 at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center, 7440 South Ave.

The debutantes and their escorts will represent several high schools throughout the Mahoning Valley: Austintown Fitch, Arielle Green, Jai’Leei Letlow and Bryana Morgan; Campbell Memorial, Khadijah Bonner and Morgan Newell; Chaney, Khadijah Jenkins, Janae Ward and Shaunelle Yancey; Liberty, Ayana Durden and Tiara Harrison; Ursuline, Courtney Powell; Youngstown Christian, Taylor Burkley and Briana Curd; and Youngstown Early College, Destiny Hughes and Brittany Ingram.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and voting will go on until 7. A local band, Michael Austin Project, will entertain.

The formal presentation will begin at 7 p.m., when Miss Cinderella and the first and second attendants are chosen by popular vote.

The Cinderella Ball makes the JCL scholarship program possible. For all its 56 years, it has been the sole fundraising event for scholarships.

The league’s scholarship program was developed to supplement the limited amount of funds available to qualified black students seeking higher education. To date, the Junior Civic League has awarded more than $513,300 to area students.

Fran Curd is the 2011 Cinderella Ball chairwoman, and Cynthia Mason is Junior Civic League president.
