Fire closes portion of U.S. 224

CANFIELD

Crews worked for several hours Saturday to put out a fire at a storage facility behind Peaberry’s Cafe & Bakery, closing part of U.S. Route 224 for about two hours.

The blaze began around 4 p.m. at the facility at 4350 Boardman-Canfield Road. The road was shut down from Summit Drive to Westford Drive.

Firefighters from Cardinal Joint Fire District, Austintown and Boardman were on the scene until about 7:25 p.m., reports state. The cause is still under investigation.

No loss estimates were available late Saturday, but multiple storage units sustained damage, firefighters said.
