Phantom youth teams host tournament
Three of the four Youngstown Phantoms youth hockey teams advanced to the championship game in their respective age divisions, as the Youngstown Area Amateur Hockey Association hosted its first annual hockey tournament, Phantom Phright Phest last weekend.
Sixteen teams from as far east as New Jersey and as far west as Columbus participated in the event at the Ice Zone in Boardman. There were four age groups competing in 27 games from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. In the Squirt division, the Youngstown Phantoms finished 2-1-1 to earn a spot in the championship game on Sunday. They lost to the Mentor Cardinals 3-2 in overtime.
In the other Squirt division, the Phantoms went 3-0 in pool play. They fell 6-3 to the State College Junior Icers in the championship game. The Pee Wee Phantoms went 2-1 in their first three games. In the finals, the team lost 3-1 to the Columbus Junior Jackets. The Bantam division Phantoms finished 0-3 in pool play.
