NEW CASTLE, PA.

The United Way of Lawrence County has raised 57 percent, or about $226,939, of its $400,000 2011 campaign goal to date, Gayle Young, executive director, reported.

The campaign began with the Day of Caring on Sept 8 and reached the halfway in mid-October. “We plan on wrapping up the campaign by year end,” Young said.

The highlight of the most recent report meeting was a report by Joanne Preston, chairwoman of the annual “Taste of the Town” fund raising event, who said a record 360 people attended the event and raised $15,000.
