A chocolate-tasting and silent auction to benefit the Dale McCartney Family is at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Assembly of Pentecost Church Hall, 4363 state Route 82. The event will feature independent chocolatier Jackie Duckworth with Dove Chocolate Discoveries. Half of the sale proceeds will go to the McCartneys.
Dale McCartney has Stage 3 brain cancer and can no longer work. He has frequent seizures and cannot be left alone. His wife, Teresa, is caring for him and their children.
Anyone who cannot attend the fundraiser may donate to the Dale or Teresa McCartney Benefit Fund at PNC Bank Howland, 8215 East Market St., Howland.
Model trains

The Youngstown Model Railroad Association will have its annual open houses from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the association’s club, 751 N. Four Mile Run Road. Admission is $3 for adults. Children under 12 get in free if accompanied by an adult.

Suspects sought

Police are looking for two men who robbed a 56-year-old man while he was trying to buy drugs in an East Side neighborhood.
According to reports, the man drove to the Plaza View Apartments off McGuffey Road at 11 p.m. Tuesday to purchase marijuana but changed his mind and was attempting to leave the area. Before he could leave, however, two masked men approached him, one carrying a gun, and robbed him of $400.
According to the report, officers could smell a strong scent of alcohol coming from the man while taking his statement.
Rookery Radio wins software

Rookery Radio, the student-run, online radio station launched earlier this year at Youngstown State University, is getting about $16,000 worth of software and services at the National College Media Convention in Orlando, Fla., as the grand prize winner in the College Broadcasters Inc.-Spacial contest. RookeryRadio.com started last spring and now includes about 50 students from different areas of study. It’s on the air from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and is automated the rest of the time. Each student gets a two-hour shift.
