West Boulevard salutes Veterans

The students, staff and administration of West Boulevard invite local veterans to West Blvd. Elementary School on Nov. 11, for a special Veteran’s Day Luncheon and Program. Our local veterans are invited to eat lunch with the students from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria. At 12:15 p.m. a 3rd grade musical program of patriotic songs will be held in the auditorium.

All guests are asked to RSVP by calling 330-726-3427 no later than Nov. 9.

Wollet achieves membership

Harry J. Wollet, Financial Advisor, located at 755 Boardman Canfield Rd., was recently named a member of the 2012 Executive Council. Executive Council honors are presented only to those financial advisors who have demonstrated an extremely high level of commitment to clients through personal service and professional integrity.

Wollet, who joined Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. in 2003, has more than 21 years of experience in the financial services industry. A monetary donations has been made to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley by Raymond James for Wollet attaining Executive Council Status.

Montessori school hosts Baby Talk

The Montessori School of the Mahoning Valley, 2008 Lynn Ave., Youngstown is hosting Baby Talk: Where Babies Communicate every Tuesday in November.

The classes taught by Karen Steed, Deaf Educator and Sign Language Interpreter and Barb Ricks, Speech Language Pathologist is designed to increase vocabulary, reduce frustration and expand expressive language in babies. Classes are geared to children ages 6 months to 2 and a half years and their parents.

Baby Talk level I will be Tuesdays in November (8,15,22) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Baby Talk level II will be Tuesdays in November (8,15,22) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Class fees are $50 and include the session and sign language resource materials. Swap puzzles at the library

The Boardman library will host a jigsaw puzzle swap on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Trade a jigsaw you’ve already conquered for one that you’ve yet to complete.

Library hosts blood pressure screening

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will be screening blood pressure at the Boardman library on Monday from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Library invites children to show thanks

The Boardman library invites children of all ages to show thanks on Nov. 14-26 during library hours. By drawing a picture or writing a sentence or two, children can show and tell what they are thankful for.

All entries will be displayed in the library. All participants who enter will receive a bookmark and stickers.

The Boardman library is hosting Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s on Nov. 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 10 a.m. for children ages 2-3. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finer plays and other activities that will help children become a successful reader.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Boardman library will host Fun Times for 4s and 5s on Nov. 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 10 a.m. for children ages 4-5. The program includes developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities to help children come successful readers.

Bird walk in the park

Jeff Harvey of Wild Birds Unlimited will lead a walk to search for feathered winter residents and migrants on the Mindy Henning Memorial Trail today at 8 a.m. Meet at MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead at MetroParks Farm.

Design fresh flower centerpieces

Design a fresh flower centerpiece at Fellows Riverside Garden on Nov. 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Lemon leaves, eucalyptus berries and hypericum share the limelight with autumn-hued roses in this Thanksgiving centerpiece. Dolly Vivalo will instruct you step by step in the design of this stunning fresh flower arrangement placed in a unique leaf vase.

The cost is $28 for Mahoning County residents and $35 for non-residents.

The Gardens presents Breakfast Botany: Birch

Fellows Riverside Gardens invites you to Breakfast Botany: Birch on Nov. 18 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Start your morning with a brisk walk through the Gardens on then return to the Garden Caf to enjoy a light breakfast and learn about plants in the birch family.

The cost is $7 for residents and $9 for non-residents.

Enjoy Olde Fashioned Christmas

Lanterman’s Mill will be decked out in holiday finery Nov. 26-27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Olde Fashioned Christmas at the Mill.

The program will include Santa, artisans demonstrating crafts, a juggler, a balloon artist and musicians.

Bring a hat, scarf or pair of mittens to decorate a “Giving Tree.” Donated items will warm-up children in need from Mahoning County this winter.

Shop in the Gardens Holiday Open House

Shop the beautiful garden-related items, jewelry and holiday and home d cor today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

The limited edition 2012 Mill Creek MetroParks calendar from local nature photographer Scott Lanz will also be available.

Profits from the calendar sales support the future Ohio Woodland Garden at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

ABWA anniversary to be marked

The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Woman’s Association will celebrate its 49th Anniversary on Tuesday at Das Dutch Haus Restaurant in Columbiana. Cost is $20 and will include fried chicken, chuck roast, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, vegetables, cole slaw, soup and salad bar, homemade bread and pie.

Disney Prince and Princess Party set for Saturday

Princesses and Princes from preschool to third grade are invited to the Disney Prince and Princess Party at the Austintown library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Dress up as your favorite Disney princess or prince.

This is a fundraising event for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Tickets are $20 per child and the price of admission includes a ticket voucher for the a Disney on Ice performance of “Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey” at the Covelli Centre.

Children at the library party must be accompanied by an adult, who is admitted free. Attendance is limited to 100.

BCMS PTA announces meetings

The Boardman Center Middle School PTA will host two more meetings in 2011. The meetings will be Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. in the small auditorium at BCMS and Dec. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Johnny’s. RSVP is required for the Dec. 6 meeting.

In 2012, the meetings are as follows, Jan. 19, Feb. 16, March 15 and April 19. All meetings in 2012 will begin at 9 a.m. and take place in the small auditorium at BCMS.

The installation luncheon is set for May 17 at 11:30 a.m. The location will be determined and announced at a later date.

PTA meetings are open to members and anyone interested in what is going on at Boardman Center Middle School.

Methodist church serves turkey dinner

Boardman United Methodist Church will host its annual turkey dinner on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults, $4 for children 6-12 and $1 for children 5 and under.

Shaffer joins Farmers National Bank

Timothy Shaffer will be the new Vice President at Farmers.

Shaffer began as a management trainee and assistant branch manager in 1984 and has since help positions such as credit analyst, branch manager, small business loan officer and commercial loan officer.

In his new position with Farmers National Bank, Shaffer will lead the commercial lending efforts in the Mahoning Valley.

Third annual food drive

Dr. Cecil, Dr. Gudaitis and staff will be hosting their third annual food drive during the month of November. On Nov. 17, the doctors will provide all chiropractic adjustments at no charge for existing patients in exchange for at least a bag of nonperishable food items. Call to reserve an appointment.

During the week of Nov. 14-18, the doctors will offer new patients a consultation and X-rays in exchange for two bags of non-perishable food items. All food and proceeds will be donated to the Warren Family Mission.

Chaney Class of 1976 reunion

The Chaney High School Class of 1976 will hold its 35-year reunion from 7 to 11 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the Regency House, 3704 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.

Cost is $35 per person. Reservations are required.

The Austintown Fitch High School Class of 1981 will host its 30th class reunion on Nov. 25 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish center hall, 4500 Norquest Blvd., Austintown.
