Warren woman gets probation for lying to police

YOUNGSTOWN — A 21-year-old Warren woman, who admitted impeding a murder investigation by falsely telling Liberty and Youngstown police her car was stolen, has been sentenced to one-year’s probation.

Kayla Cain, who apologized for her actions, drew the sentence this morning from Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court after both prosecuting and defense lawyers recommended probation. She has no prior criminal record.

Cain had pleaded guilty as charged Sept. 27 to two felony counts of obstructing justice by falsely reporting her car, in which the prosecution said the shooter fled the East Side murder scene, had been stolen from a Liberty retail store parking lot.

Cain’s fiance, David Figueroa, 28, of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, was acquitted by a jury last month of aggravated murder in the death of Emmanuel Izquierdo, 31, whose body was found on North Lane Avenue on April 21, 2010, with 24 gunshot wounds.
