Police: 2 stole from Pa. woman taken to hospital

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania couple is charged with burglarizing the homes of an elderly woman and her grandson — after first giving the woman a ride to the hospital.

Online court records don’t list attorneys for 24-year-old Joseph Walters Jr. and 28-year-old Deboria Axton, both of Belle Vernon.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports today that Pennsylvania State Police say the couple offered the woman a ride to Uniontown Hospital on Oct. 18, but took money and keys from her purse during the trip.

The woman’s grandson called police about three hours later to report that an apartment he rents from his grandmother had been burglarized and, police say, the elderly woman found her home had been burglarized after she was released from the hospital Oct. 27.

Axton was arraigned Wednesday. Walters was already jailed on unrelated charges.
