Man charged with taking, selling grave markers

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man is facing charges he stole more than a dozen bronze markers from the graves of veterans and sold them to a scrap yard.

The Morning Call of Allentown reports 40-year-old Samuel Steffie is in custody charged with stealing 16 grave markers from a cemetery in July. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.

Authorities say Steffie took the bronze markers and sold them at a scrap yard in Orwigsburg.

The Morning Call report says the Schuylkill Haven man was arraigned Sunday on charges of receiving stolen property and desecration of venerated objects.
