The Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services has begun using new office hours — 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The agency, at 280 North Park Ave., formerly opened an hour earlier.

‘Person of the Year’

Mayor-elect Doug Franklin will be honored as the Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League’s “Person of the Year” during the league’s 81st anniversary dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at McMenamy’s Banquet Center, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles.

Youngstown native Omarosa Manigault- Stallworth, star of NBC TV’s “The Apprentice,” will deliver the keynote address.

Franklin is the first black person to be elected Warren’s mayor. He served as Warren’s 4th Ward councilman starting in 1989, then served three terms as councilman at large starting in 1993. He became council president in 2000 and was appointed in 2004 by Mayor Michael J. O’Brien as service and safety director.

Tickets, which are $50 per person, can be purchased by calling the league office at 330-394-4316.

Connected school

U.S. News and World Reports ranked Columbiana High School as one of the most-connected schools in the country. The school was ranked seventh on the list.

“Computers, wireless Internet, interactive digital work spaces, technical support staff and high online engagement are keys to building a connected classroom,” the magazine’s website says. The publication surveyed schools to gauge connectivity. The 301 that responded were ranked in order of “most connected.”

Rally planned

WARREN

The Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative will stage a rally at 6 p.m. today in Courthouse Square seeking action on legislation relating to massage parlors in the city.

The MVOC has worked with Warren City Council to develop legislation that it hopes will make it harder for human trafficking to take place in Warren’s 10 massage parlors. But the MVOC says the city’s law department has slowed the progress of the legislation.
