The Mahoning County Coroner’s office confirmed that a man found dead along a township road on Halloween committed suicide.

Curtis R. Bryan, 45, of Kenmar Court, was found with a gunshot wound to the head about 8:45 p.m. Monday by three people passing by in a car.

The witnesses told police they were driving on Oakwood Avenue when the noticed Bryan’s body on the side of the road.

His body was found about a block away from his residence on Oakwood Avenue, near Four Mile Run Road.

A black semi-automatic handgun was found a short distance away from the body in a stream that runs along the side of the road, according to a police report. Capt. Bryan Kloss, of Austintown police department, said the gun likely fell into the stream after Bryan shot himself.

Dr. Joseph S. Ohr, forensic pathologist and deputy coroner, said Tuesday that an autopsy confirmed Bryan died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Bryan’s girlfriend told police he’d been depressed, and about 8:30 p.m. she said he came into the house, kissed her and told her goodbye before leaving.

Kloss said a suicide note was found on the body.
