Fresh fruit snacks coming to Youngstown schools

YOUNGSTOWN

Starting this week, Harding Elementary School students will be treated to snack carts that will be filled with fresh fruits and vegetables purchased from local vendors.

Last spring, the Child Nutrition Department received a $16,560 grant from the Ohio Department of Education to pilot a fresh fruit and vegetable program to encourage children to consume fresh fruits and vegetables.

Students can select snacks from the carts at no charge twice weekly.

Harding staff will also integrate the components of a healthy lifestyle into lesson plans.a
