Ohio man sentenced to 8 years in prison for 154-mph fatal

CINCINNATI (AP) — An Ohio man who police say was traveling at 154 mph in a fatal car crash has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Judge Ethna Cooper of Hamilton County Common Pleas Court sentenced 57-year-old Stanley Ivey of Louisville, Ohio, on Monday. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Cooper told Ivey his dream car became “an instrument of death.”

Ivey earlier pleaded guilty to manslaughter and inducing panic, while a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide was dropped. Police say his supercharged Ford Mustang slammed into a disabled vehicle last year, killing a man inside his crumpled, burning car.

Ivey’s attorney told the judge the Navy veteran has a liver condition from a blood transfusion that causes him to become confused. Atty. Scott Croswell says Ivey shouldn’t have been driving.
