Heat takes toll on Warren G. Harding band in D.C. parade

WARREN (AP) — Their director says more than 20 members of the Warren G. Harding High School marching band were treated for heat exhaustion and dehydration during Monday’s National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.

The band director says heat in the mid-90s created what he calls a “semi-disastrous” situation. He said the students were on hot pavement for hours and that sizzling conditions “just didn’t let up.”

Even so, he describes Monday’s parade as a great experience for the 150 band members who were signed up.

The students marched about a mile carrying their instruments and wearing uniforms with long sleeves and long pants.
