As we pause this weekend to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom, TV also takes time to salute them. Here is an example of today’s Memorial Day fare:

v “The Green Berets,” 9:45 p.m.: John Wayne stars in this film airing on Turner Classic Movies.

v National Memorial Day Parade, 2 p.m.: Live coverage of this Washington event on cable’s Military Channel.

v “Inside the Vietnam War,” 7 p.m.: Firsthand accounts and rare footage and photos, on NatGeo.

v “Gettysburg, 9 p.m.: Premiere of 150th anniversary special launches Civil War week on History.

v “Surprise Homecoming,” 10 p.m.: A preview of the upcoming series in which Billy Ray Cyrus hosts reunions of military families, on TLC.

“Basketball Wives” (8 p.m., VH1): We’ll see if, in Season 3, “Basketball Wives” still has game. Shaunie and company return tonight for another round of romance, rivalries and round ball.

“Gettysburg” (9 p.m., History Channel): “Gettysburg” kicks off a weeklong commemoration of the Civil War’s 150th anniversary. It’s a look at the costly battle in Pennsylvania that proved to be a turning point in the war.

“Platinum Hit” (10 p.m., Bravo): Enough with the singers. In the new reality competition, “Platinum Hit,” the spotlight is on the people who write the songs. Kara DioGuardi and Jewel guide the aspirants.

Music in the Park series to begin

NORTH LIMA

Beaver Township’s 2011 Music in the Park free concert series will kick off June 8 with a performance by oldies band Following June. The concert series, in its 10th year, will run weekly through Aug. 24 at Woodworth Park, off East Western Reserve Road, between Market Street and Southern Boulevard. The concerts are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Howland woman on ‘Dance’ show

BOARDMAN

Kristin Dobson of Howland will appear on “So You Think You Can Dance?” at 8 p.m. Wednesday on Fox.

Dobson is a professional ballroom dancer and an instructor at Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Boardman.

She studied ballroom dance at Fred Astaire,

Dobson had auditioned in New York City and was selected to audition again in Las Vegas this week for the show.
